General Information
Hair transplantation is a surgical method aimed at restoring normal hair growth in bald areas. Surgical intervention may be necessary for those who cannot achieve hair restoration through medical shampoo treatments, scalp massages, or alternative remedies. Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure where hair is moved from one part of the scalp to another. The procedure is performed using the FUE method. The process of hair transplantation typically takes 5–7 hours.

What is the Cost of a Hair Transplantation?

We’d like to answer this question for you.
With so many benefits that a hair transplantation using the FUE technique offers, interested patients naturally want to know the associated costs. The cost of a hair transplantation depends on the number of transplanted grafts. In a non-binding consultation, we calculate your individual treatment price during the initial discussion. Prices can vary significantly based on the number of grafts needed to achieve a successful result. On average, one graft costs €1.90. It’s important to note that health insurance does not cover the transplantation cost, as hair loss does not adversely affect the patient’s health, and hair transplantation is not covered by the insurance catalog. Only in cases where the patient can prove a medical indication will statutory health insurance subsidize the operation.

A medical necessity may include:

  • Injuries
  • Severe accidents, for example, after a burn
  • Skin conditions such as alopecia areata
  • Depression

For all these cases, the burden of proof lies with the patient. This means that health insurance companies can deny payment, even if a specialist diagnoses a severe depression caused by hair loss. In most cases, insurers use Medical Services, abbreviated as MDK, to obtain an overview of the involved individuals.

Price Calculation

To give you a clearer understanding of the costs associated with a hair transplantation, we would like to provide you with some guidance. As mentioned above, the costs can vary depending on the number of grafts and the current hair situation of the patient. The complete price list for all treatments is available on our Cost Overview page.

Prices in general are calculated based on the number of implanted roots and billed according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ).

Autologous Hair Transplantation using the FUE Method

The extraction of individual hair follicles is repeated hundreds to thousands of times as needed, in precise and concentrated work. What sets the FUE method apart is that there is no noticeable difference between the extraction and replantation phases; all hair follicles are replanted directly, without detours, for the best aesthetic results. As this process requires special experience and routine, FUE hair transplantations can only be performed by trained and skilled FUE specialists. This ensures that the often lower growth rates with this approach compared to FUT are compensated for. The FUE method secures this measure through uniform quality standards for hair transplantations, leading to the fastest possible healing and growth stages of transplanted hair.

Completely Scar-Free
Unlike the FUT method, there are no visible scars on the scalp. Instead of removing skin strips, follicles are individually extracted with FUE, leaving no scars. The tiny holes created during extraction heal unproblematically, leaving micro-scars corresponding to the number of grafts taken, which are barely visible to the human eye and are even covered by extremely short hairs. Thus, the FUE approach allows for largely unrestricted extremely short hairstyles and gives patients greater freedom in choosing future hairstyles. FUE techniques typically require larger, healthy, and dense donor areas and are significantly more time-consuming. For this reason, the FUE operation costs slightly more than the FUT operation for an equal number of grafts.
