Head

Hair transplant

Many people are affected by hereditary hair loss – 40% of men and 20% of women suffer from a receding hairline, very fine hair structure or half baldness. In most cases these rarely respond to conventional therapies, such as creams or lotions. Medicinal treatments are often associated with numerous side effects. The follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation technique offers a sustainable solution.

Hair loss occurs in the upper part of the head, in the “tonsure area”. Here the hair root cells react strongly to metabolites of a hormone. As a result hair falls out and the hair root cells die in the tonsure area.

Hair root cells in the hair crown area, on the other hand, are insensitive to these hormones and usually remain intact for life.

In hair transplantation using the follicular unit extraction (FUE), groups of hair roots are detached individually, using a hollow needle (approximately 0.65 mm to 1.0 mm in diameter). There is no significant bleeding in the process, as no scalpel is used.

Menopause, pregnancy and taking the birth control pill can have a negative effect on full hair. Hormonally induced hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) enormously reduces self-confidence. Women especially suffer when light patches appear on the head. A high hairline can also cause distress, due to the “appearance” of a high forehead.

  • high hairline
  • bald, diffuse or light spots
  • hair thinning
  • curly hair
  • hormonal hair loss (androgenetic alopecia)

Procedure

How does hair transplantation work??

The hair transplantation is performed with the so-called FUE technique. The skin areas with intact hair roots are individually pricked out with a micromotor and removed with special tweezers. In the balding areas, such as the corners of the hairline or the tonsure, channels are created with a sapphire pencil and the removed hair roots are inserted one by one. The whole process takes place under local anesthesia and usually takes 6-8 hours, depending on the number of grafts.
