General
Hair transplantation is a surgical method aimed at restoring normal hair growth in bald areas. Surgical intervention may be required for those who cannot achieve hair restoration with medical shampoo treatments, scalp massages or alternative remedies. Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure that involves moving hair from one part of the scalp to another. Hair transplantation is performed by FUE method. Hair transplantation usually takes 5-7 hours.

When will I be able to return to work after my hair transplant?

We would like to answer this question.
Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure, so you should take it easy for some time afterwards. It is recommended to take a vacation for at least 10-14 days after hair transplantation. As the scalp is very sensitive during this period, you should avoid unnecessary contact with the scalp (no scratching, no stroking over the head, no head coverings). After the procedure, there is usually swelling in the area of the forehead, which goes down within a few days. The swellings are caused by water retention, which is caused by the saline solution. You do not have to worry if you experience severe swelling, it is completely normal. The swelling will go down after a few days. It is recommended to drink plenty of water, keep your head straight and take it easy, this will speed up the healing process.

After the procedure, heavy physical work and heavy sweating should be avoided for a period of about two weeks, as the crusts formed by the healing process can soften and thus an infection is favored. This can negatively affect the growth of hair follicles (are structures that surround the hair root and thereby anchor the hair into the skin).

Another factor is the risk of injury. Injuries to the scalp could cause the transplanted hair follicles to fall out and thus jeopardize the success of the treatment.

The above-mentioned period is only an approximate estimate regarding the inability to work. The healing process varies from person to person and the time of incapacity varies accordingly. Of course, you can contact us at any time to discuss your situation and the development of your healing process.

The first 10 days after surgery are crucial in postoperative care. During this time, the transplanted grafts grow, wound healing begins and crusts form. After the 10th day you will wash your head with shampoo for the first time to remove the crusts that have formed in the transplanted area. We recommend a “Sebamed everyday shampoo” or “baby shampoo” for this purpose. It does not stress the hair and mildly nourishes the hair and scalp. However, after the hair transplantation, the head washing will be explained to you again by our professional staff and the process will be discussed with you in detail. Please avoid shampoos with silicones. Since the nutrients cannot penetrate through the silicone layer, there is a risk that the hair dries out internally and thus becomes brittle. At the latest on the 13th day after the surgery, the scalp must be free of all crusts and dead tissue. We will give you the exact instructions on how to wash your scalp and hair. If all the crusts are not off on the first day, there is no need to panic. Washing can be repeated the day after, but very important: not scrape off. After the crusts are off, you are fit for society again.
